Kids Create is an after school club for children, aged 5 to 11.  With school funding being cut for creative subjects, we at Arty Farty Retreat aim to bring back creativity into children’s lives.  We aim to help your children express themselves, socialise and collaborate with their peers and learn new skills with different projects each half term.

Each of our classes are aimed at a different age group on a rolling two year programme to ensure the children get the most out of our sessions. Every project will equip the children with knowledge and skills to develop their creativity building their self confidence to study art within school, at home and be able to take it even further! Our Arty Farty SmARTys are trained professionals who are dedicated to inspiring your young ones to express themselves through the arts in our small groups! Please read further below to find out more about the individual projects they will be exploring.

Tuesday, 4pm to 5pm
DOODLEBUGS! (Beginners, ages 5 to 7)
Messy fun and fearless creativity — perfect for first-timers with big imaginations.
Next term will have fun with Art Colour Theory.
Through playful exploration and hands-on creativity, children will begin to understand how colours mix, contrast, and communicate feelings.

As we dive into the basics of colour theory, your child will discover the difference between warm and cool colours, learn about primary and secondary colours, and experiment with how colours can change the mood of a picture. But more than just making art—they’ll be developing their confidence, sharpening their observation skills, and learning how to express ideas visually.

Doodlebugs isn’t about getting it ‘right’—it’s about discovering and experimenting, your child will leave each class a little more curious, confident, and creatively free.

CREATIVE EXPLORERS (Intermediate, ages 8 to 9)
Budding young artists learning real techniques while keeping the fun flowing.
Next term will be exploring Watercolour Painting techniques. Through guided projects and open-ended experimentation, children will explore key watercolour techniques like washes, layering, blending, and texture-making, all while developing their own unique visual voice.

At this age, children are beginning to look more closely at the world around them. In our classes, we nurture that growing curiosity and help them translate it into thoughtful, expressive artwork. They’ll learn how intention, technique, and accident all play a part in the creative process.

As they paint, they’ll also be developing patience, focus, and creative courage—skills that go far beyond the art table. Each piece they create will be a step forward in discovering who they are as young artists.

ART WIZARDS (Advanced, ages 10 to 11)
Confident creators crafting their own style and projects to get them ready for Secondary school art.
Next term will be developing their own project about Identity. Through a range of mediums and techniques, from drawing and collage to mixed media and symbolism, each child will create personal, powerful artworks that tell their own unique story.

At this age, children are beginning to ask bigger questions about themselves and their place in the world. In these sessions, we offer a safe and inspiring space for that exploration—where every mark, choice of colour, or image becomes a reflection of their growing sense of self.

As they create, they’ll learn how artists throughout history have used their work to express identity—and how they can do the same. More than just making art, they’ll be building self-awareness, empathy, and the confidence to express themselves with honesty and imagination. Art Wizards is where technique meets meaning—and where young artists learn that their voice, their story, and their creativity matter.
