Step into a world of gentle magic, whispering forests, and curious creatures in this immersive art day inspired by the beloved film Totoro. Together, we’ll explore themes of nature, imagination, friendship, and wonder through a series of creative projects designed to spark both skill and storytelling.
Throughout the day, young artists will experiment with drawing, painting, and mixed media, learning how atmosphere, character design, and landscape can bring imaginary worlds to life. We’ll look at how artists create mood through colour, texture, and composition, and how small details can make a scene feel truly magical.
This workshop is about more than recreating favourite characters—it’s about encouraging children to invent their own forest spirits, dreamlike settings, and visual stories. As they work, they’ll build confidence in their techniques while learning to trust their creative instincts.
By the end of the day, each child will leave with a collection of Totoro-inspired artworks and a deeper belief in their own imagination—reminded that creativity, like magic, grows when you nurture it.
For our longer days, please bring lunch with you to enjoy in the studio or you can take a walk down the High Street where there are a couple of cafes to choose from if you’re old enough to go on your own.
Please book this workshop on Eventbrite.
Please see more information on the people behind Arty Farty Retreat, our safeguarding policy and our refund policy.
If you feel your child would benefit from one of our workshops but can’t afford it, please contact us. We have a pay it forward scheme and would hate for anyone to miss out on the benefit of creativity because of financial issues. Equally if you are able to pay it forward for someone else to benefit from our workshops, please get in touch.
